The Lhotse Expedition offers a demanding and technical ascent to one of the world’s highest mountains, rising immediately south of Mount Everest. Although the approach follows the same trail to Everest Base Camp, the climb of Lhotse presents a distinctly different challenge, particularly on the steep and exposed Lhotse Face and couloir.
The expedition begins with a trek through the Khumbu region, allowing gradual acclimatization while passing traditional Sherpa villages and monasteries. Climbers establish a series of high camps, navigating the Khumbu Icefall and Western Cwm before ascending the Lhotse Face, where fixed ropes and precise movement are essential.
Lhotse is best suited for experienced mountaineers with prior high altitude climbing background. The final summit push involves sustained steep climbing at extreme altitude, requiring strong technical skills, endurance, and careful timing. With proper preparation, weather planning, and logistical support, Lhotse provides a rewarding and serious Himalayan mountaineering experience.
Arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport, transfer to hotel, and rest. Attend briefing covering permits, logistics, safety protocols, and equipment checks.
Scenic morning flight to Lukla followed by a gentle trek to Phakding. Acclimatization begins while enjoying views of the surrounding peaks and rivers.
Follow the classic Everest trail through Namche Bazaar, Tengboche, Dingboche, and Lobuche. Reach Base Camp, where you’ll acclimatize and prepare for Lhotse technical climbing.
Rotation climbs to higher camps, fixed rope setup, and technical practice. Careful acclimatization reduces altitude risks and prepares climbers for the demanding summit push.
Climb the Lhotse Face and Lhotse Couloir during a stable weather window. Technical sections require rope navigation, ice, and snow climbing. Descend safely to Base Camp afterward.
Rest at Base Camp and pack for departure. Begin retracing the route through Lobuche, Dingboche, and Namche Bazaar back to Lukla.
Return trek through the Khumbu Valley.
Flight back to Kathmandu and final departure.
